Don’t Ignore Your Foot Pain

We all want feet that are healthy and provide good support for our bodies, allowing us to easily stand and walk. When foot pain is ignored and not promptly treated, it can get worse. It may lead to your feet not only looking bad but also not functioning well and no longer being able to be a cooperative partner in helping you to walk and run. Our podiatrist, Dr. Charles Chapel from Chapel Podiatry in Brooksville, and serving Homosassa & Hudson, FL areas wants nothing more than to prevent whatever is causing your foot pain from worsening to the point that it impairs your daily life.

Some symptoms are mild enough for you to put up with for a day or two and that you fully know will go away in a day or two, such as pain from a small cut or a bee sting. But if any of the symptoms below show themselves, you should be seen by a physician immediately.

  • If you begin to experience foot pain that wasn't there before, especially if you have diabetes,
  • When foot pain is accompanied by significant swelling, redness, and a warm feeling. These are signs of a possible infection.
  • If there has been trauma to the feet
  • Pain that does not subside after several days
  • Pain in both feet
  • Difficulty bearing weight on your feet
  • The appearance of wounds on your foot, or wounds on your foot that are taking a long time to heal
  • A change in the physical appearance of your foot
  • Pain upon waking, when taking your first step out of bed in the morning
  • Numbness in the foot
  • Pain while at rest
  • "Catching" or "locking" sensation in the ankle when walking

What are some general tips to improve the health of my feet?

There are multiple things that you can do to decrease foot pain.

  • Wear shoes that fit well and provide proper support.
  • Avoid high heels and pointy-toed shoes
  • Clean your feet every day
  • Check your feet often so that when an unusual wound or physical deformation pops up, you'll know that this is something in need of a podiatrist's expertise.
  • Moisturize and massage your feet every day
